A “healthy” alternative for a high-quality product at a good price!

Jordi van Maasdam, Sales:

“Corporate social responsibility and a healthy lifestyle are here to stay in today’s society. There is an increasing demand for green, healthy, socially responsible and honest products. This is no longer a luxury trend or fashion fad; as we have become increasingly aware of human impact on the planet it has become a necessity.

We aim to play a progressive role in our sector of industry. We already hold the Florimark quality mark, in addition to which we participate in FFP (Fair Flowers, Fair Plants).  The objective of the latter quality mark is to create a “clean” industry. FFP products can be traced from grower to consumer, and all chains are required to participate in FFP. This offers consumers the assurance that the plants are produced and traded in a sustainable manner in good social conditions.

Waterdrinker is allowed to market FFP products and for this we seek to collaborate with growers and customers who uphold the same principles, such as the Life & Garden chain of garden centres. Together with them and a group of growers, we develop a ‘private label’ with items that are all allowed to carry the FFP quality mark.

Waterdrinker really has adopted FFP, we feel a responsibility towards conserving our planet and absolutely consider this an added value. This private label enables us to offer a “healthy” alternative for a high-quality product at a good price”.

The Logistics department contributes to sustainable enterprise

Bob IJpelaar, Supply Chain and Logistics Manager

“At Logistics we are constantly busy examining and implementing ways of raising the level of sustainable enterprise within the sector. Take CO2 emissions for example: Waterdrinker has managed to dramatically reduce the CO2 production per plant during a particular process by implementing alternative transport possibilities. Recent tests revealed CO2 reductions of approx. 50%. It is also our policy to purchase and use environmentally friendly commodities.  Our Logistics department has a number of highly trained logistics staff with broad experience of the sector and a feel for sustainable enterprise.”

We are also currently working on new logistics systems which, by means of high quality ICT and mechanical innovations, will contribute to lower costs, less space, lower energy consumption, a significant reduction in paper consumption, etc. And with regard to training, we continuously work to improve the knowledge and skills of our employees. We are, in fact, under continuous development”.
