Fall Trend 2025: Soul of Autumn

Rooted in retro, made for now

Summer is slowly coming to an end, and autumn is already around the corner. Days grow shorter, the air turns crisp, and the trees transform into deep moss green, rusty browns, and mustard yellows. Soul of Autumn embodies the warm, emotional tones of the iconic soul music from the 1970s and the transformation that autumn brings. Just like soul music can touch your heart, we want this trend to resonate deeply. That is why it taps into a desire for nostalgia and a sense of comfort.

Rooted in retro, made for now means we draw inspiration from the iconic shapes and materials of the seventies. Soft, rich fabrics are combined with plants and flowers that enhance this feeling. Think leaves with retro-like patterns, rounded shapes, and warm floral tones. The result is a trend with a modern twist.

Let yourself be inspired by the transition into autumn and its “sounds”: Soul of Autumn.

Color palette and materials

The Soul of Autumn palette is anchored in moss green, enriched with warm rust tones and subtle mustard-yellow accents. The centerpiece is the calming color mauve, inviting us to slow down. The color is named after the French malva flower, with its soft purple petals and delicate grey-blue undertones. Petrol blue adds a refreshing contrast.

Soft curves and organic silhouettes make a comeback in furniture and accessories. Layer-on-layer styling, pattern-on-pattern, and classic seventies silhouettes are combined with retro glassware. Picture round coffee tables, curved sofas, and oval side tables. Luxurious seventies materials such as velvet, bouclé, glazed ceramics, and recycled vintage finds—each with its own story—bring the look together.

Our Trend Collection

Atmospheric, powerful plants complete Soul of Autumn. The Calathea Orbifolia brings serenity with its round, striped leaves. New leaves unfurl like a trumpet—a subtle nod to the soul music that inspired this trend. The Aeschynanthuscommands attention: the Rasta with its typically vintage-toned flowers and the Marmoratus with its striking, warm red leaf patterns. The Aster Novibel adds nostalgia with its purple blossoms and golden centers. And the Peperomia Melon, with its round, striped, metallic-shiny leaves, winks at the retro style of the seventies.

This selection is intended as inspiration, there are, of course, many more plants that fit perfectly within this trend. You can explore them here.

Pia Klatt, on behalf of the Waterdrinker Trend Team:
"For every trend we seek the right tone. This trend resonates as a soulful mix of materials and meaning – with plants and flowers as the musicians."
